The short version
Every Luxe Shine watch carries a water-resistance rating: most models are rated 3 ATM, a few are rated 5 ATM. Neither number means the watch is built for swimming or diving. They describe how much everyday moisture a sealed case can handle, not how long you can wear the watch underwater. If you take one thing from this guide, take this: treat every Luxe Shine watch as splash-safe for daily life, and take it off before you shower, swim, or get in a hot tub.
What 3 ATM covers
3 ATM (roughly 30 meters of static pressure, tested in a lab, not in the ocean) is the everyday-life rating. It is there for the moments you are not thinking about your watch: washing your hands, getting caught in the rain, sweating through a workout, a stray splash from the sink. It is not there for showers, swimming, or anything that submerges the case for more than a few seconds.
Why the line is drawn there
Water resistance is a seal, not a shield. Gaskets sit around the crown and the case back, and they are rated for brief exposure to light moisture, not sustained pressure or temperature swings. Hot water is harder on those seals than cold water, which is part of why we do not recommend showering in any Luxe Shine model, even the 5 ATM ones.
What 5 ATM buys you
A handful of Luxe Shine models are rated 5 ATM, which is a step up in margin: more tolerance for accidental splashes, rain, or a watch that gets wet while you wash the car. What it does not buy you is a green light to swim or dive. We would rather be conservative here than have you find out the hard way that a seal let go, so our guidance is the same for 3 ATM and 5 ATM models: keep it dry on purpose, and do not swim or dive in it.
What no rating on any watch covers
- Showering or bathing, where hot water and soap both stress the seals
- Swimming, snorkeling, or diving, at any depth
- Pressing the crown or any button while the watch is wet or submerged
- Long-term submersion of any kind, even in a sink
This is true of watches well beyond our price point, not just ours. Water-resistance ratings also degrade over time as gaskets age, so a rating on day one is not a promise for year five.
Leather models need extra care
If you own Cronos, our leather-strap line, water is even less forgiving: leather absorbs moisture instead of shedding it, so a splash a steel bracelet shrugs off can leave a leather strap stiff or stained. Wipe leather dry immediately and let it air out away from direct heat if it ever gets wet.
Why this matters for your warranty
Our 2-year international warranty covers manufacturing defects, not water damage from swimming, showering, or submersion outside the rating. Being upfront about what water resistance does and does not cover is the best way to make sure your watch, and your warranty, both stay in good shape.
